Hi EveryoneRe-instated:
UK Kia Sorento MK 1 Rear Axle Upper Trailing Arm Axle Mounting Bracket Corrosion Service Campaign TSB.Kia UK stopped this Free Of Charge (FOC) work at the end of APRIL 2017. DVSA advised this Forum, 4/7/2017, that the Service Campaign had been re-instated by Kia, BUT is 'Time Limited' to 30/4/19**.
BUT, all is not well. Please DO NOT rush off to Kia - Please read this through fully and follow the advice.
Since then, owners who have approached a Kia Main Dealer direct about their Brackets to get them checked or repaired, FOC, have reported having been 'turned away' by the Kia Dealer. Some owners have believed what the Kia Main Dealer has said to them and have given up all hope of getting their vehicle fixed. If these Brackets are not attended to, sooner rather than later, the corrosion will take hold, typically from year 5 onwards and the vehicle will become UNSAFE.Forum experience shows that: - Drivers may or may not detect a problem before the flexible brake pipes rupture. - Routine Maintenance and the MoT cannot be relied upon to flag the problem before a vehicle becomes UNSAFE.- Owners have been quoted up to £7,500 for repairs.- If Kia is approached in the right way, then invariably, there can be a successful FOC. result. There is much more to this than can be written here including DVSA's perspective on why this is not a Recall, how the problem can lead to the 2 identical flexible brake pipes from the axle casing to the body rupturing and the evidence supporting this notice. Forum advice to all Owners is to not to try to sort this by yourself - please, come to the Forum first for guidance on how best to approach Kia. PLEASE, DO NOT EVEN TRY TO GO TO A KIA MAIN DEALER FIRST, current posts say that you will ALMOST CERTAINLY BE 'TURNED AWAY'.The Forum is Free, anonymous and has no hidden strings, as over 9000 Members have found since its start in 2005. Just scroll up to Main Header hit the Register or Login and then hit this link to the Board for all New Upper Trailing Arm Bracket Cases where you can Post to tell us all about your Brackets.Be sure to read the Latest Advice for the Brackets in the Announcement at the top of that Board.*
* It will be seen to be quite a complex and involved issue which the Forum understands many owners may not have the time or inclination to get to grips with. Hence the offer of Help/Guidance at present.
** It is understood that in spite of the 'Safety and Fitness for Purpose' aspects of this problem that Kia UK may be under pressure from Kia Korea to bring the cut off forward, so:
DO NOT HANG ABOUT - GET ON WITH IT NOWREMEMBER, PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM KIA MAIN DEALERS FOR NOW.Hope this is helpful...

Hello, I've been told by my garage that the rear axle on my 2007 Sorento needs replacing due to corrosion. I think it could be in relation to what this service action is about - can you advise please on the best way for a successful conclusion to this? I've emailed Kia customer services about it tonight but had been advised by someone on the phone from there (before I emailed) that I should speak to a Kia dealer direct about it. At the moment I'm waiting to see if I get a response to my email. Thanks.

Hi,what is the preferred plan of action regarding corroded axle brackets,? I’ve discovered that both the brackets are corroded to a dangerous level. Is my first point of contact Kia Customer Service or Kia Main Dealer? My Kia is a 2005 with 45,000mls on the clock,it has already had holes drilled in the lower corner of the brackets but the corrosion has still prevailed.

Always contact KCS via email providing as much photographic evidence as possible, with your VIN explaining you understand there is a service campaign covering this failure, and asking what you need to do next. Hope this helps Paul

There is a post earlier in this thread that explains the moderators are not on this forum full time, etc. Give them a chance, please.
Anyway, as with any older vehicle there is always a chance of a problem. It also depends on whether you are buying from a dealer or privately. Whatever the case, inspect the vehicle! And I mean REALLY inspect the vehicle or have it done for you. Don't rely on recent MOT's either. They are not worth the paper they are no longer written on!
A Google on 'Kia Sorento rear axle corrosion' will give you an idea of where you need to look and what to look for.
Not every Sorento has had these problems, but it is a weak point and may depend on how it has been cared for.
DO NOT fixate on the rear axle though. Do your research and make sure you or your agent ensure everything is working correctly or you are happy to take it 'as is'.
