OK - I've taken a look on the Forum and there is lots of information concerning wheel and tyre sizes.
The best advice I can give you is to register and go and take a look and post your question in the Tech Issues Section for the 2002 - 2009 Sorento.
Sorry I can't be more help but we do have experts on this, who should be able to advise you.
Hope this helps a bit...

Hi tobyboy
How to get into the For Sale Section?
Login to the Forum > Go to Black Menu at top of Home page > put cursor over 1st item on left and further menus will appear > slide down to 'Member Benefits and Services' and another menu will appear on the right showing 'For Sale' > slide cursor onto this and click > 'For Sale' Board should then open.
OK???

I could delve into all the threads on this rear axle situation but could someone succinctly explain what is the problem? Here in Australia there has not been a peep from Kia Australia or dealers regarding any issue (to my knowledge). Is it just relating to UK models? Mine's a 2003, owned from new with nary a problem except crankshaft pulley falling off (3 times)in the early days . Cheers.

Hi eutychus
The problem is that there is no drainage (design error) for the Rear Axle Upper Trailing Arm Mounting Brackets welded to the top of the rear axle casing. Consequently, in wet environments especially where salt is used on the roads the brackets rust and break and it is also possible for the axle casing to rust so that there is insufficient metal to weld new brackets and/or the axle starts leaking oil and the diff. blows.
The problem first showed up in the USA Salt belt states and has become prevalent in the UK and exists in similar climates.
In Aus, I would not expect the problem to arise except in the Snowy Mountains (salt) or if a vehicle was used for sea launching of a boat or similar.
Kia Aus would be very unlikely to say anything about this lest they get hit for free repairs because the product is not fit for purpose. That said, I do not know the Aus Consumer Laws so they might be able wriggle out.
Notwithstanding, I would be very surprised if the problem has not hit some owners, though probably a small percentage across Aus.
Page 1 of the Contd. Poll Thread on the 2002 - 2009 Tech Issues Board sets out the corrosion limits set by Kia and the recovery options to avoid catastrophic failure.
OK???

Thanks Bogwort, that does explain the issue well and I'll ask my service tech to look at that next time it's in for service - although I'm pretty confident that being in the driest state of the driest continent for all of its years, that there's likely no corrosion in that area of my Sorento. Cheers.

Basically yes but take a breath there are a TSBs or at least there ought ot be but 1 isn't!!
Please take a breath before you contact KCS to check out what there is here first. Both the items kia seem very touchy about and you need to do your homework first else you could be 'mislead'
OK?

Hi & Welcome daz999 There are 2 main things - Rear Axle Bracket Corrosion and Diesel Fuel Tank Delamination. The rest are just minor but it is important that you read up about them so that they do not become a problem to you, like tyres and prop shafts. I recommend starting with the Brackets thing. I'll post a link in a bit here to get you started: kiasorento.proboards.com/thread/12746/latest-advice-upper-trailing-brktsHave a thorough read of that and the other threads there. Any questions please just post on that thread where the question crops up and we'll get back to you. OK? Regards
