Hi Guests and Members
The primary concern of most web/internet users is personal security and safety; me included.
For many years, I surfed, but was totally averse to registering with my personal details because of the increased security risk, let alone paying for access; particularly when a site looks to be free, but then at the last moment before completing registration you get hit with a charge or waste the last whatever time you have spent registering.
Without giving too much away to the unscrupulous, if you use a different email ID/address for surfing and finding general information from sites which you feel may be less secure than your bank etc. then the chances of compromising your primary email address and its security are reduced to virtually nil.
I started working with computers in 1965 and it was only a year or two back that I realised this and created another email account with a different reputable service provider, using my screen ID bogwort47@........
So in summary, my TIPs are:
1. Use a screen ID which does not relate to your actual ID
2. Use a different email address from a different reputable email service provider for general surfing from that which you use for your personal stuff. Getting another email address is easy - gmail.com and yahoo.com are both FREE - just google one of them to join.
3. NEVER EVER use a password [/span]for surfing that you have used for your personal stuff.
4. Passwords should contain at least 8 characters and be a mixture of upper and lower case letters, numbers and punctuation or other characters; the more obscure the better.
I cannot guarantee that you will never be 'hacked' but my view is that you will be many more times likely to win your National Lottery Top Prize.
