@kimphil
You may have 2 disassociated problems there. AS far as I am aware there is no relationship between immo light and fuel tank problems. That is most likely an issue with the immobiliser system itself and usually it is the antenna located on the ignition barrel. This may either need the connections cleaning/securing or the antenna itself being replaced.

HI Gee6You are almost certainly right about there being 2 problems - thanks for pointing that out, must have read it too quickly - Heh Ho Regards

I'm not entirely sure I am @kimphil About the IMMO Light: It came on while you were driving Can you confirm that - or was it the 'check engine' light that came on while driving and the IMMO light was (only) associated with starting problems. [In which case, what I said stands ]

Hi jbsuperstar5From what you have said, we can almost certainly help you - the answer should be in this thread but the link will only work for registered members who are logged in like your self. If, after reading that thread, you still have any questions, please pop a post on that thread and we will get back to you asap. Link: kiasorento.proboards.com/board/71/2002-2009-diesel-tank-delamination The thread you need is 'can it be cured' - lots of other information there - whatever to be sure of getting your problem sorted out by Kia be sure to follow the advice given there for an FOC solution. Hi All I'm new to forums and last week put an entry as a reply to another post, maybe expecting a reply? To date there has been no comments I can see and wonder if my questions/comments detailed in the reply were in the correct section of the forum? It seemed appropriate to comment where I did but it might have to be a new post / thread (not sure of difference) to attract any comments from other members? The topic I was concerned about (corroded rear cross member), to me is as significant as the corroded trailing arm brackets. The article is below, associated with the appropriate link. Can anybody please advise if my comments are in the correct section? I would also like to take this opportunity to thank all members and staff involved for their time in raising such awareness of the major issues listed on the forum and advice given, resulting in effective remedial work by Kia. Hi Everyone I have a 2004 Sorento XS (had since new) which has just failed it's MOT because of severe corrosion on a rear cross member that supports hanging brackets for trailing arms and fuel tank etc. This is an identical situation to the post showing by bogwort47 Dec 11, 2016 at 4:51pm I am aware of the brackets attached to the rear axle issue being repaired/replaced FOC by Kia and this has been done in my case, but wonder how many members have also had issues with the rusted and corroded cross member? There does not appear to be that many documented cases I can find on forums, maybe I've missed something, but surely there must be a significant number. Has Kia acknowledged this severe rusting and corrosion on the cross member, does anybody know? and repaired FOC as I don't believe this should happen on any car built within the last 20 years, or have members had the cross member replaced at there own expense? If so, are there any indications of costs etc. and what work was involved. I am reluctant to have to scrap the car with no MOT as the cross member and brackets are less than £60 to purchase from KIA and the car has been great over the years in all other respects and still is. My garage does not undertake welding, so it would be of interest if there are any garages known to have have undertaken this work before and are familiar with what's involved in or around Lancashire and Greater Manchester area, but I would be willing to travel outside this area. I do intend to contact Kia Customer Services as they have been very helpful in many other instances and if any member has done this previously it would be nice to know what there response was. Any help, advice or previous repair situations and solutions would be most welcome. Thanks in advance. Suggest you go to the Witter website and cross check there and then post them on the For Sale board.
OK??

My sorento XS2005 has developed a noise, a knock knock knock from the rear axle when under hard acceleration or under load when towing. I have had the prop shaft off to check the UJ'S and they are fine. Any ideas what it can be? Many Thanks lymingtonpeter Silly question but have you managed to get underneath and check the "area of concern" of the rear axle and the shocker locations for "flex" Or it could be your exhaust rubber let go allowing the exhaust to catch the chassis etc Paul. I had this with my old XS, turned out the rear springs were slightly worn(squashed), replaced both sides and then ran great. the stops kept bottoming out and knocking.

Hi all,
I'm not a newbie to Kia cars but I am to the Sorento. I bought one very recently, a 2005 Diesel auto with 150k on the clock. It drives very well and is incredibly comfortable. The issue that the car has (and I should stress that the seller, did make me fully aware of this before I bought it) is that the green 4WD Low indicator is always illuminated on the dashboard. The seller also said that it didn't seem to select 4WD anymore (hence why he decided to sell it).
Now I have to confess that I don't need 4WD and bought it primarily because I was after a car big enough to be able to put my pushbike into without dismantling it every time. I liked the fact that it was an auto as well as the high driving position. Although this indicator is on, the Sorento is definately in 2WD high and cruised the 70 miles or so home along the motorway with no problem whatsoever.
My question is - Is this a common problem and if so, is there anything that a less - than - novice home mechanic could do by way of a quick and / or inexpensive remedy? As I mentioned I don't need 4WD however it would be nice to be able to resolve this one or at least to be able to put my mind at rest that something horrible isn't just around the corner.
Thank you for your wisdom in advance.

Hello members, just new here so please excuse if I upset anyone or appear to be ignorant. I have a 57reg Sorento diesel with a normal steering wheel i.e. no cruise control or radio etc buttons, my query is can i take a newer wheel with multi function controls and retro fit it to my Sorento?-I have bought a new media system that has wiring for steering controls etc. Can I retro fit cruise control as well?
The cruise bit is not really that important, but would really like to use media system to its full extent
Thanks

Whether it could be wired in is an entirely different matter - I don't know if they used a different clock spring. I actually cannot recall anyone having success with the multi-function controls. Most of the ones I have seen available (from the Far East) were designed for phones.

Hello forum
Im a pretty new member so please excuse if Ive done something wrong here. I have a 57reg Sorento diesel. I have just had the brake lines and hoses replaced by local garage. I was charged £520 for doing the work- never having owned a 4x4 in past this seemed bit excessive. Could anybody help here. Would this be a "normal" price to be expected or have I been ripped off. The hoses were all priced at approx £32 and the lines cost £280. When questioned about this the owner stated he charged £40 per pipe which included bending,flaring,fitments,brake fluid,testing. So he charged me 7 x 40 =£280.
Does the Sorento have 7 brake pipes? would this be a reasonable sum to pay per brake line? Some of my friends think ive been conned, but as none of them own a 4x4 ( they all have small cars) no one could agree what was resonable.
Any ideas, comments would be gratefully accepted
Thanks
Richard

Any ideas, comments would be gratefully accepted Thanks Richard I think I make it 8 fixed pipes in total and 6 flexible pipes: Master Cylinder to Hydraulic Control Unit (HCU) [aka abs unit] x 2 HCU to front left + flexible pipe HCU to front right + Flexible pipe HCU to chassis rear (left) + Flexible pipe (chassis to axle) HCU to chassis rear (right) + Flexible pipe (chassis to axle) Axle to wheel left + flexible pipe Axle to wheel right + flexible pipe Now whether ALL of those needed replacement is another question ..... {Mine is similar age, just passed 101k miles and MOT* last week. No brake lines replaced.} {*Well actually it 'failed' the MOT for a blown brake light ....... }

Hello Gura
Thanks for that. Yes unfortunately they did all need replaced. The mechanic sent me pics of them as he was surprised they last mot in april. I had asked him to check the brackets that are mentioned in other posts. So whilst photographing them he noticed the brake lines. Amazingly the brackets are ok and no need to worry about them. Maybe the salt air and roads up here hit the brake lines more. Lol. My car which I only got in april has only done 52000 miles. I have now purchased underseal to try and further protection to brackets etc. Thanks for the advice and answering me quickly,greatly appreciated
